Repair Using Carbon Fiber (CFRP)

  • Maeen has been a pioneer in introducing CFRP/FRP technology for the purpose of repair/rehabilitation of concrete structures as well as pipelines and tanks.

  • Maeen has been able to develop its expertise in CFRP/FRP based repair through field experience as well as constant collaboration with reputed vendors/manufacturers overseas, particularly in USA, UK and Turkey.

  • The core idea behind the CFRP/FRP based repair is to provide a robust solution which will ensure structural integrity of the member needing repair, permanent or temporary (until such time that a permanent solution can be achieved). This is particularly true for pipelines in petrochemical plants, where a shut-down of the line may cause excessive losses in financial terms.

  • The CFRP/FRP repair is usually governed by design based on various codes, specific for the substrate material involved. Maeen has the expertise to perform design based on American as well as international codes such as ACI 440.2R (for concrete substrates) and ASME PCC 2 / ISO 24817 (for metallic substrates such as pipelines).

  • Maeen has carried out multiple successful temporary repairs under emergency situations, so that a catastrophic failure can be avoided. In addition to design, Maeen has also developed a team of highly skilled applicators to carry out the time sensitive CFRP/FRP application ensuring safe work practices and achieving the required quality of work.

  • Our team is equipped with trained and certified applicators who can perform installations for larger and most complicated applications. Maeen has been certified by a number of international vendors in the application of their products, after hands-on training.

       The use of CFRP includes:

  • Rehabilitation or restoration of the structural strength of a deteriorated member.

  • Upgrade the entire structure for newly adopted Seismic Loading criterion.

  • Retrofitting or strengthening of sound structural members to resist increased loads due to changes in the use of the structure, or to address design or construction errors.

  • An amazingly simple yet strong and durable solution for repair of deteriorated piles and columns in buildings, bridges, water and waste‐water facilities, industrial plants, underwater piles, etc.

  • Repair of tanks and pipes can be done using composites such as Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) and Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer (GFRP). Composite repairs are compliant with API 652, API 650 and API 653.

  • Repair of active leaks in pipes, tanks and fluid retaining structures without the need for system isolation.
